CultiLux

Illumination of phototrophic and photomixotrophic organisms

The CultiLux™ is a fully automated lighting unit for the cultivation of phototrophic Microorganisms with a wide range of applications in the field of cell culture screening. The CultiLux was developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Dresden and is a direct extension of our well-established “Respiration Activity Monitoring System” shaking incubator RAMOS®. The controllable and adjustable LED lighting unit for the shaking flasks is generally suitable for the cultivation of phototrophic organisms. The shaking flasks are illuminated from below by the LEDs and can be flexibly adjusted thanks to their modular design.

The most important functions at a glance:

  • Innovative Development of a Controllable and Adjustable LED Illumination Unit for Shaking Flasks
  • Various Options for Dimming and Filtering Light
  • Tests of exposure time and intensity, e.g., programming specific day-night cycles
  • The light intensity can be varied between approximately 75 and 2,300 µmol photons m⁻² s⁻¹. This allows for the study of both light-limited and high-light conditions.

CultiLux Real-World Application Examples:

  • Study of phototrophic and photomixotrophic organisms such as cyanobacteria and plant cell cultures
  • Cultivation of any phototrophic organisms (such as, for example, Arthrospira platensis)
  • Parallel Screening of Culture Conditions
  • Optimization of production, e.g., of phycocyanin
  • Detection of Carbon Limitation
  • Study of Self-Shading
